Couldn't load pickup availability
This is a afrobeat drum library played by an indie pop drummer who has never played afrobeat before. Based on the unique style of this kind of rhythms Xavi Molero has created his own adaptation of the genre, sometimes inspired by classic afrobeat patterns and sometimes just imagining them.
The result is a collection of afro beats with a dark, deep and punchy sound more typical of indie pop. We also added some rototoms to the set to give it more vibe and experiment with tribal rhythms

RECORDING DETAILS
A closer look at how the sounds were made, from the instruments and microphones we chose to the vintage analog gear and the character of the room itself.

DRUMS
We used a mix of vintage drums, including a Ludwig Super Classic snare from the late ’70s, early ’70s Rogers Powertone toms, Premier XPK toms converted into concert toms, and a ’50s George Way drum. We also recorded a custom-built TIMBAL drum set made by a local luthier in Barcelona.
We don't even know the brand of the rototoms. They were given to Xavi by his neighbours from the bike shop. Some things just find their way into the studio.
The cymbals include Istanbul Agop Traditional and Xist Dry Dark Ion Crash cymbals, vintage Zildjian Avedis cymbals from the ’50s and ’60s, a ’90s Sabian HH Manhattan Ride, and a Factory Metal Percussion flat ride.
THE ROOM & THE SOUND
A closer look at the space, the gear and the process behind our sounds.

For this collection, we took our sounds into the main room of La Masia Studios, a unique space housed in a 15th-century country house, in the oldest part of the building.
Surrounded by vintage analog gear and the character of the room itself, we captured the drums in a space with a story of its own.
THE RECORDING SETUP
We used Neumann KM 184s and Beyerdynamic M 160s for the overheads, a vintage AKG dynamic mic and Line Audio CM4s on the snare, and Sennheiser MD 441s and MD 421s on the toms. Everything was recorded through a ’70s Neve console.
