We're throwin' down this dope collection of drum beats, banged out with chopsticks on a classic George Way drum kit from the 50s.🥁

 

We got the drum kit all set up in the main hall of La Masia Studios, this ancient 15th-century spot nestled right in the heart of the house.

 

We spiced things up by tossing some jingles onto the floor tom and slapping a Beijing-bought gong on top of the tom and snagged a '69 Ludwig Supraphonic LM402 snare, slapped a kitchen rag on it, and let it rip!🙉

 

We wrapped it up with some nasty rototoms we snagged from the studio's back alley stash.👻👻

 

For the cymbal setup, we went with an 19” Istanbul Xist Dark Ion Trash and threw in some old-school Zildjian Avedis models. Then, we strapped on triangles, tambourines, and chains to give it that raw, gritty vibe.⛓️⚙️🗡️

 

We swiped those chopsticks from our go-to spot in downtown Barcelona 🥢. So, one night, we're chowing down on some grub, and it hits us: why not use these chopsticks to bang out some beats on drums? And bam! 👹

 

 

We strategically 🥷🏾 placed a bunch of mics around the room to catch that full room sound. Along with our trusty dynamic mics, we brought out some Newman KM184s to get a crisp, up-close recording of the drum set.

 

The studio console is a NEVE 5101 from the 1980s. To give the mix some grit, we ran a few tracks through the Otari MX-70. And to spice things up, we threw in some electronic beats from vintage drum machines.👴🏾

 

 

What we ended up with are these funky breakbeat and jazz fusion-style beats that scream vintage vibes. They've got that raw, natural, and lo-fi flavor, but honestly, we're not even sure how to label them.🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
